The situation is this:

For years now, one Saturday a month, my wife travels 125 miles to have her hair done at a beauty shop in a different town. The reason she does this is that this particular shop is the only one that can “Do it right”.

Since I do the bookwork around here, I see these canceled checks coming in once a month from this beauty shop amounting to between $180 and $300. Every month.

Sometimes, I will go with her and either get a haircut, roam around town looking at stuff, or just sit in the car and read. The most expensive thing I have ever bought on one of these little outings is a cup of coffee. No, I take that back, one time I had the oil changed in the car while I waited; it came to $38.

Therefore, over the years, her spending during these excursions has mounted up to a considerable sum, while my expenditures have stayed somewhat controlled, in my opinion.

This coming Saturday is the appointment day yet once again.

I know where there is a sweet little JD 50 sitting down there, which is for sale.

I think I’ll ride along with her tomorrow and see if I can catch her completely off guard. :>)

A few years back I would have agreed with that ignorant statment. But being married to a Hairdresser (not barber) I would have to say you are most likley wrong. You see most women care deeply about their looks. My wife has had costomers drive as much as 300 miles to have their hair fixed. She has had women call on the phone crying because they went to some one else and got their hair messed up. The fact that the price changes indcates that different services are being preformed. If it is a full service salon she may be having her hair colored, trimed, highlights put in, waxing done, nails done, pedacure and tanning. But most likly not all for only $300. My wife makes around $55 an hour doing hair in a very rural area in a city like bufflo or rochester about 100 miles from us she could make twice as much or in NYC or some place like Los Vegas she could make at least 4 times as much. Its not just cutting hair a lot of education goes into it. At least 5 or 6 times a year she goes on education trips to learn the newest in styles and techniques. She also stocks about $8000 in hair color and perms. And her tools are not cheep just her shears cost over $400 and she has them sharpend about every 2 months. She sure makes a he$$ of lot more mony than I do. Last night when I went to pick her up for diner(we do that every friday) she was working late on a client who gave her a $170 on a $128 service for staying late. I surly don't mind eating a little later. My thought is to tell her how nice she looks when she gets back and forget you saw how much it cost.

marriage is a partnership, not an individual concept. the only thing i can say is my wife is my foundation and i feel sorry for thoses who marriages are not based in scripture and a genuine relationship. it breeds its own problems

Aloha, Allan, I don't think that you will catch her off guard but just for the heck of it, ask her about the JD. You might get a big surprise.

Mahalo,
Howard

You can never catch a woman off guard. Even if you do, the last thing you want on your hands is a woman who's been caught off guard. Men have lost limbs doing that.

I thought that the $68 my spouse was paying for hair cuts was bad. That's kind of been our deal, she can spend her money on what she wants and I can spend mine on what I want.

Hntn,

Well, That's kinda how we do it here only with one little twist:

She spends her money on what she wants and I spend HER money on what I want. :>)

I sure am going to miss that woman:)>>
Seriously, I agree with some of the others (after 37 years with the same one) a good woman is worth more than anything else.

Well I had 33 yrs with my old lady , her theory was that her money was hers & my money was hers too . It was ok for her to spend but not me . Well , I'm single now & love not worrying about whether I'm doing right or not . Single life is A-ok , once you adjust . Good luck .

Must be nice to be rich enough to afford things like that. i agree with your logic, but by now you must know that logic is not a consideration.

Rhudson,

No, rich is one thing that I definitely am not.

I'm just on a crusade to speed all of my children's inheritance, that’s all!

And, this really is one good ole gal....best thing that ever happened to me.

The Good Lord looked down on me one day and said, "Son, you just ain't a hackin' it on your own, so I'm sending down someone who can straighten you out" :>)

As my dear ol' Pappy always told me: "If you come home and yer pillow's in the pond an' yer supper plate's broke, odds are, ya prob'ly screwed up somewhere an' p**sed her off real good!" If you buy that sweel li'l JD and then these kinda things start happening, those $180 hairdo's might start soundin' like a pretty cheap price for keepin' the peace...just my point of view.

I have to agree with the married fellows who say that a good woman is invaluable. I didn't pick mine, she picked me. Asked me when I was going to marry her right from the stage of a chili contest where there were several hundred people watching. What could I do? Had to say I'd marry her any time she wanted. Three months later we were. 9 months and 2 weeks after the wedding, we had our son, who just turned 10, and a daughter 3 years later. I wouldn't trade her or them for all the tractors in the world!

Well, Vern, I can't tell how much your post was serious and how much tongue-in-cheek; would have to respectfully disagree. A "good" wife is the SINGLE BEST INVESTMENT a man will ever or could ever make. How do you pick out a good one? I haven't a clue; may be years after the marriage (ceremony) before you really know what kind yours is. On my part, just pure, blind, stupid luck; after 37 years of good times, bad times and just day-to-day living; best decision I ever made..... ..

Wow, $180 for hairdoo, HHmmm I am in the wrong field of trade. I should have become a barber. But then I would not want to listen to the old hags whine. When the wife says "no no" to the JD50 say okay then no more $180 haircuts.

Tractor men,
The good Lord looked down at Adam one day and said" Look a little lonely - if you give me your right arm I'll provide you with a perfect mate".
Adam thought for awhile - humm thats my fishing arm and my spear chucking arm.
Then Adam said "Good Lord what would I get for a Rib?"
Make do or do without.
The Lord has truley blessed me with my mate.
