Dad just bought a 05 3500. First off I was always skeptical of the 20+ mpg claims on these until I drove it. Impressive!! Now for what I was needing onf on.

He bout this truck used with 35k on it. Once we started looking it has the banks Ram Air system on it and the Banks High Ram intake along with a Jake Brake(kinda wierd to hear a one ton with one but....). I am thinking that if the previous owner did all of this he might have put a chip in it as well and am wondering where to look for it. Our other Cummins is a 97 model and doesn't have all the electronics on it so I don't know where the chip would be on this one.

Thought about going to the Dodge Diesel forum but figured I would get a faster answer here.

Thanks!

Is the mileage being read off the dash indication or from the service station's fuel pump, a known distance & mathatics? Some of those tuner programs are a "bit optimistic" in mileage. Sometimes the fuel flow vs. distance ratios get tweeked a little. I double check the odometer reading vs. a known distance on a trip too. I wonder why the previous owner sunk that kind of bucks into a 2005 and traded it a two years age?

As for why he traded I'm not sure, there are some strange fellas up here....Or he might have just wanted the new 6.7 who knows. The milage was read off of both the indicator in the cab and by checking milage and gallons at the pump. About 1mpg difference.

Gonna call him this afternoon and see if they flashed it or anything. It doesn't blow any black smoke or anything when you get on it hard which one man who rund a Bollydog chip said it should if he had flashed it or put a chip in.

Thanks for the info and I am gonna look into the pyrometer and low pressure guage anyway. Didn't realise they have the guage might put on on the 97 as well.

With all that "stuff" on it do you still have warranty?

I honestly don't know. Dad bought it and did the dealing. I'll ask him and find out as i know the dealer knows it's on there. I do know that the dealer installed the jake Brake and it is a Cummins,or thats what's on the switch anyway.

I HAVE A 2001,,3500,4X4,6SP. LOVE IT W/CUMMINS. GO BACK TO WHERE YOU GOT THE TRUCK AND GET THE PREV. OWNER INFO (EASY TO DO)AND FIND THE TUNER TYPE ,IF ANY IS USED.I ALSO HAVEAIR SYSTEM AND TUNER SYSTEM ON MINE.ALSO IF THIS TRUCK IS TWEEKED UP I RECOMMEND INSTALLING A PYROMETER TO CHECK AND MONITER EXHAUST TEMPS. IF YOU PULL MUCH. ALSO FINALLY TO POSSIBLY SAVE YOU SOME MONEY FARTHER DOWN THE ROAD, PUT A LIFT PUMP LOW PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT ON IT. IT SAVED MY WHOLE INJ. SYSTEMWHEN MY LIFT PUMP FAILED. EASY TO INSTALL(45MIN.)AND INEXPENSIVE. I PURCHASED MINE IN KNOXVILLE TN. AT CITY DIESEL AND CAME WITH INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. THIS IS SOMETHING DODGE DOESNT TELL YOU ABOUT OR PUT ON BECAUSE IT WOULD CUT THEIR PROFFITS IN SERVICE IF PUMP FAILS.

Not many use chips any more they flash a new program into the computer with a programmer. the program will be lost if you take the truck back to the dealer for any warranty work.
