Hello, My husband and I recetly bought a property that has a number of old farm implements sitting on it; however, we aren't sure what most of it is. We are hoping that someone here might be able to shed some light on the subject. The biggest piece is a Hart Carter machine (thresher or baler?) serial number H39998. We would like to sell it, but have very little idea what it might be worth. Suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks

Joe pretty well covered it - H-C made components for combines & other cutterbars, so I suspect you have an older combine.

A picture is worth a 1000 words, if you post pictures here folks will help you right away.

Lacking pictures, you need much more description - what color is your machine(s)? Size? Does it have it's own engine, or a pto shaft, or no moving parts? Is it something towed by horese or a tractor, or is it self-propelled? Do parts of it go into the ground, or does it have a sickle bar to cut, or ? And so on. You get the idea.

As to value, anything sitting out in the weeds for a decade is not going to be worth more than $100, probably $10-25 for scrap iron. Face it, the machine was parked out there for a reason - couldn't be sold back then, worth less now.

A few exceptions would be a tractor with good tin (blown engines & trannies can be repaired, good tin work is getting hard to find), cast iron seats from horse drawn equipment can bring $400+, a siderake, grass mower, or plow that is all there can bring you some money. Some items like that can get you $100-700.

Good luck, it can be fun to track down what all the stuff is. :)

The piece you are talking about is likely a threshing machine, Hart-Carter made several different attachments for them. The thresher itself should have a name on it somewhere else like Case, Belle City, or IH etc. If you post your location someone in your area might be able to help you identify everything else you have, or you can post pictures of it to the "help identify" section of this web page.

Enjoy, Joe

It looks to have bee tractor-pulled at one point. We are about an hr north of oklahoma city, so if anyone in the area would be able to help, they would be welcome to try. I hope to have a scanner up and running soon, so we can post a pic. It appears to have run on an old external flywheel system without a motor of its own. (Inside one of the doors on the side is an old drive belt.) It has what looks like a bale chute on the front end and something that looks like a hopper on the left side near the rear. It is a sheet-metal grey machine that is about 20 ft long and 9 feet high and about 6 feet wide. It looks like it has a chaf chute on the rear, which is part of what is causing our confusion.

Any further input would be helpful...we are mostly just trying to get rid of the thing, as a whole or in parts.

thanks!
Crys
