A D I used one Qt ATF first in a diesel fuel can then put $5.00 of diesel fuel (station fuel pump will mix atf and fuel in can) put that into tractor fuel tank . Run tractor for two Hr. fast and slow r.p.m. untill motor is better may only take 30 min. . Snowey

If your injectors are truly gummed up it's a whole lot easier to remove them than say the spark plugs on a new F-150. If there is a good diesel shop nearby they can rebuild them. Depending on production year and what pump you have could have a bearing on further diagnosing your problem. ATF in the fuel or any fuel conditioner treatment will cleanup the system but will not renew it. ATF will burn when atomized at the optimum 2500psi injection pressure.

It's your equipment and your money. ATF is not designed nor blended to burn, quite the contrary it's designed to withstand temperatures near 300*F before oxidizing into varnish and ash, otherwise your AT would not need a fluid change when the ATF gets overheated. Yea, I know many folks use ATF for both gas and diesel engine cleaner but I've yet to have anyone prove to me there is any benefits. If your injectors are very badly stopped up I suggest having them proffesionally cleaned and recalabrated. A faulty injector will sometimes introduce a poor fuel pattern into the cylinder and cause fuel erosion on cylinder wall, piston, or both. If you want to try using one of the high quality fuel injector cleaners first you've nothing to lose.

Hi AD,

As Marlowe suggested, ATF type F works well for maintaining clean injectors and the fuel system.

What might work better if there truely gummed, is straight vegetable oil, any kind, as #2D leaves a residue flim in the fuel system. The guys using B100 bio-diesel complain alot about the first couple tanks of B100 plugging fuel filters because of all the crap in the system. Besure the ambiment temp is above 40* or so as B100 will gell right up at around 20*F.

If you take the injectors out, then Berryman B-12 works very well on removing the carbon build up (can't be used as a diesel fuel). You might also want to check the price on new injectors tho as some are very reasonable priced.

Gas tanks vary in volume-is there an ATF to gallonage of fuel ratio recommended?
