I am looking to buy either an Oliver 60 or Farmall H. I want to run a 5'-6' pull rotary mower behind it. I was wondering which of the two tractors would handle the mower better? How wide is an Oliver 60 and how wide is a Farmall H? I really appreciate any help.

Thanks for all the replys I think I may go with a Farmall H. The feilds I have to mow are basically wide open with no trees. We have been cutting them for the last two years so the grass is starting to come up over the weeds. I am looking for a very nice running Farmall H or M with a 6' pull behind mower. Thanks for all the help.

I like the sound of a 6 cylinder better than a 4. I'd go with the Oliver, but the 66 not the 60.

Neither 60s or 66s are 6 cylinders they are both 4 cylinders. The 70 or 77 are the smallest 6 cylinders Oliver had.

An H would be fine if you don't have to back up to mow under low trees or bushes. Get an over running pto for the mower. If you get an H use a six foot mower, there's plenty of power and you can keep the wheels wider for stability. If you can get a tractor with a live pto it will be more convient if there are obstacles to mow around. I don't know much about oliver's but h's and M's are good tractors, maybe a farmall 300 would be better though since they have live pto's. (most of them I think)

I, unfortunately, agree with rustyfarmall. The Oliver 60 is only about 18 Hp so the Farmall H would be a much better tractor for that. Also the 60's PTO runs constantly when it is in gear and even in neutral so the H would be safer too. (don't ask me why Oliver did that)

If you want to stay with Oliver, look for either a 70 or 66 or 77. They would all be as good or beter than the H. But then I love Olivers!

The one fault with the Oliver "70" , is the high PTO shaft. The lower PTO shafts run smoother , due to straiter drive shaft during operation. For this reason ,along with others , I do not favor the Oliver "70" for PTO operation.

Good point Scott,

Never thought of the hieght issue for the 70. But would there really be that much hieght difference between the RC60 and the RC 70?

Never been around a RC70 much. I guess the 70 STD would be a better match for mowing then. (My FIL has a 70 Std, nice tractor)

Both of these tractors, as do all row crop tractors, have the capability of having the rear wheels adjusted in, or out, to accomodate differant row spacings,or whatever, so either tractor would probably work for you.

Even though I favor the olivers , I would choose the "H" over the Oliver "60" for what you are going to do. Now , if the oliver is a "66" , as the post below states , then yes , I would take the oliver "66" any day over the "H".

the H Farmall is 26 HP and the oliver 66 is 25 so they are about the same but I know that olivers seem to pull a little harder then the rest for me I would probably go with the oliver but I like oliver a little better then Farmall but I do own both hope this helps a little
