Finially got my ignition problems straight and started my newly rebuilt gas engine (C-135). Starts right up and idles, oil pressure comes up ok. After about a minute, the engine starts sounding like it is under a load, slows, laboring and stops. If I wait a bit, it starts up again and repeats the process. I replaced the fuel filter, gas seems to be getting through. Anyone have any ideas? It was a short block replacement, ground valves on old head, everything else was just transferred from old engine. I'd greatly appreciate any thoughts. Thanks so much
Ray

Ray a friend of mine just rebuilt the same engine he is here with me now and he said you should make sure that the distributer is setup with all timing marks then turn distributer left to right a little at a time to see if the engine will run longer.
P.S. was wondering if you have a service or parts manual for a 1961 IH 340 utility or know someone or a website that i could get it from

sorry, i don't know this engine at all, but the 'load' and 'laboring' part dosen't sound good. could be a bearing or piston seizing.
i don't think it's a good idea to start the engine until problem is ivesigated. i would drop the oil pan and check the bearings first.
