I am trying to figure out what kind of JD tractor I recently obtained. Any help or info. would be appreciated. The only number on the engine that I could find was 23E195-88 (or 23E195488). The tractor type: T213R and serial number 188145R.

Jeff. You have a 4020. This is the break down of T213R188145:

T - Tractor
2 - 4020
1 - Chassis Type (1=Row Crop)
3 - Fuel Type (3=diesel)
R - Manufacturing Facility (R=Waterloo, Iowa)
188145 is the serial number. This one was manufactured in February of 1968.

Sorry to bother but I have another question for you. I don't have a title for the tractor. Does the gov. monitor or license farm equipment?

Thanks!!

it certainly wouldnt hurt putting it on the yt ad page, hey,it doesnt cost.your serial # shows it to be a 4020 not a 4520.4520s arent worth as much as a 4020

Jeff, I have a Hot Line book of farm equipment, but it would be better if you would narrow the field somewhat.

What age of tractor, You can get some idea from the sheet metal styling. The "88" in the number may indicate that.

What category size of tractor. Compact, utility, mid size, or 100hp or greater.

How many cylinders? What fuel?

After narrowing the field some, I might be able to find in for you. Expect someone will know right off however.

Thanks for the reply. From looking through similar JD's for sale on this web page. It looks like a 4520 (I believe was the model No.)
I was told it was 68', however again from looking at pics, it could be up to a 72' Being completely illiterate to tractors. The rear tires are 5'-6' tall. It has a 6 cyl. diesel engine. Exhaust and air cleaner are out of the front hood. Hydrolic levers are at the dash and the throttle rpm adj. is on the stear column. I believe it has 2-3 reverse gears and 5-6 forward gears. It has double lights on each side located just undert the rear fenders.

Thanks for your help.

Serial number should positively ID the tractor. Hydraulic levers on the dash would indicate the older style- Didn't the hydraulic SIDE console start in late 68, or 69? POWERSHIFT tranny had 8 forward, 4 reverse. Synchro had two or three reverse and eight forward speeds, had to be clutched to shift. 4520 styling was similar, but the serial number would ID the tractor. Previous poster had the breakdown as to what letters and digits mean.
