Hi All,

I'm currently in the process of hanging an attached 3 garage on one of my houses.

The contractor has the floor laid and floated and it is curing now. He has laid down a very nice, smooth concrete floor.

But, my question is this: After all the construction is done, the bills are paid, he is out of the yard and before we ever use this garage, I want to put down a floor covering of some sort. Maybe one of these epoxy type coverings?

What would you recommend for durability and a good non slip, easy clean surface?

Thanks in advance,

Allan

I used a polyurethane floor sealer after an acid etch and had very good results. It looked shiney but it wasn't slippery. The only problem was from hot metal from a cutting torch, but then that is damaging to any concrete, coated or not. Ed

I don't know much about it but there is a coating that can be applied that is good looking and durable. It is used in factories and other such places that have concrete floors and they want it to look good. My company had it done to teh floors about 7-8 years ago and most of it is still looking pretty good today, and this gets a lot of forklift traffic, and in places a lot of objects dropped on it. Only in a few places is it wearing thin or chipped. And there are various qualities and thicknesses too. I would check in the phone book, make a few calls around, maybe stop into a few businesses and see if they could tell you who in the area does this. It is done, if I remember, by sandblasting the floor to clean and peepare it and then applying the coating. Probably somewhat expensive. Colors are available.

There is a silicon sealer for cement floors that works real well at keeping spills from setting in the cured concrete. The two part epoxy paint is expensive and is so brittle that if you slide a jackstand over it it will chip. As for non-slip both of these can be slippery when wet or oily.
