I recently purchse a MF 231. I assumed it was made in the US, but on closer inspection of the name plate I see it was made in Poland under license by the Ursus Co. What is up with this. are they any good? Now it is a little late to be asking this. It has a perkins diesel does this mean the engine was made in poland also?

I have a '99 231 S and have had very good experience with it. I need to look at the plate because I thought it was made in England. It has performed as advertised so far but my last payment is next month so I'll let you know if there is a problem then.

Yes you do have a good tractor. Massey Ferguson has been using the Perkins engines for many years. The engine is mande in England. Is it a 231 or a 231S? the 231S is the model that is produced now. I read somewhere that the 231S had some improvements but can't remember what they were. I bought a new 231S last year and I'm very satisified. It should have 46 horsepower and 42 pto horsepower.

I don't know your specific tractor but I'm not surprised it's made offshore. A lot of so called North American machinery, CIH for one I believe, have engines and other parts made in Brazil and who knows where else. Canada/USA labor is not competitive (higher cost) than other countries. Mexico is a prime example of NA manufacturers using cheaper labor to produce our goods.

Rob. I am not surprised also; I wonder where it will end ? there is at least 6 cars out of 10 on the road that are foreign cars now, in my area- eastern Canada. Young co-workers swear by imported cars only, and they would prefer torture if obliged to purchase US cars! I guess we will pay for that one day. Ask Ford administrators just for fun. Just my 2 cents
