My Long tractor has started to suck air inro the fuel system, there by killing the diesel. If you blled off the air and then get it restarted it will run for a while and then does the same thing. Anybody have an idea of what is going on?

Thanks

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter, and did it start shortly after you did? We ran across a problem with Ford trucks with the international engine. The mechanics started using diesel fuel to lube the gasket on the filter and as a result, it was bunching up the rubber in one spot on the filter and allowing it to suck air.

Check stuff the other guys said. Bad primary pump? Air leak: cracked line or fittings, bleeder valve or plug gaskets or o-rings, filter gaskets, and primer valve if it has one.

Find and fix the air leak?

As the other person said, could be a number of other problems, from clogged fuel filter to wore out lift pump.

hi Douginva,

gona need a little more info to be specific. but i guessin that you have a problem on the low pressure side of the fuel system. stopped up or flooded with water inlet at the tank, crushed line between the tank to the injector pump, nonworking low pressure pump(thats the one that looks like a regular gas engine pump), stopped up or wet fuel filter. if you have a fuel pressure gauge check for flow and pressure at the the outlet of the low fuel pump (should be around 5 to maybe 7 psi)

not famuliar with longs, but think most diesel systems are generic.
