I have an old chevy 6cyl engine that I would like to find a governor for. Is there a universal governor or other option available for this.

Troth,

A lot of those old Gleaner "F" combines used that engine. Might check the bone pile in that direction.

Would Arnold Schwartzenegger be a universal governor? He just won a Total Recall election, didn't he? And that makes him the Governator, yah?

What do these guys do for a governor when they 'repower' various farm tractors with 4, V6 and V8 car engines? I've not seen any mention of governors. Can they all be using the Pierce?

Hi Troth,

Pierce makes a pulley-driven "universal" governor assembly. Here's a picture of one. I would post a link to a site where you could actually buy one ($240.00) but this site will block my post since they are a competitor in the sale of tractor parts. If you post your email address, I can send you a direct link. Or you can just contact the Pierce Company.

Rod,
Interesting,they block your post of a competitor's
link? I usually can't find any old iron parts here
unless they are used. All links are a possible
solution. Can you give the name? We can do the
search. I get the Not Available, or 'one size fits
all' on different style parts. Been trying to see
if Nelson Muffler Corp(now div. of Cummins) still
makes Massey-Harris mufflers...Hello? I didn't ask
for a free sandwich. I'd prefer the Nelson to an
after market mystery. Another task, before I can give them my money. American business.

Neither the name nor the link will be accepted in a post. It is the policy of this site; the post just will not go through. I accept that because this is a great site with many excellent forums. It can be frustrating at times though. Especially like this one since I don't believe the sponsors here sell the Pierce Universal Governor at all.

I agree with you on the Nelson. I am going to be looking to see if I can get one for my AC-B in the original underhood style. I think I can get one through an AGCO Allis dealer but I have not tried yet.

If you can find one, they did make belt operated governors awhile back, some of the bigger gas powered trucks had them, also I have seen them on combines.
