Hi Guys,

I've never owned a belly-mount mower. Who makes 'em and where do I go to buy?

Thanks,

Allan

Belly mount mowers are usually considered to be more of a "finish" mower than a bush hog type rear mount.

A bush hog is good for maintaing land that is not being groomed to the same standards as a lawn. Belly mounts usually don't have the power to cut tall grass, weeds and bushy vegetation due to the belts that are used to power them.

If you have an H with a narrow front end and 4-5 steep acres to cut be careful no matter what type of mower you get. The H or any other tractor with a narrow front will have a tendency to tip on steep land. A wide front end on the H would be nice.

Thanks Bill,

That's exactly what I wanted to know.

Yes, that tricycle is going down the road at the first opportunity; the new wide is coming in from Kansas.

Thanks for responding,

Allan

Hi Allan

We have owned 3 woods finshing mowers. One belly mount and 2 rear mount. Check the website below.

Not sure what kind of tractor you have. We had a belly mower on a IH Super A. Worked good. ANd now I am on my second rear mount 6 ft. Woods finish mower on an old Ford Jubilee. Woods makes a good mower. I also have had a good dealer that is great on parts and service.

What kind of tractor do you have How large of a mowing area do you have?

You can also check the Woods site below and find one of thier dealers near you.

THere are some other makes of mowers. Bushhog, Land Pride and even one at Tractor Supply Co. Those folks might have a belly mount. THey all have good mowers. However I have been very pleased with Woods and have never changed brands.

Regards
Cliff

Hi Cliff,

I bought an old H to maintain some properties up in the hills. It is quite steep and I suppose about 5 acres or so.

I've never even seen one of these under-belly things so am kind of checking them out.

Are there any disadvantages to them vs the 3-point? Are they bult heavy-duty like the bushhogs?

Thanks,

Allan

It depends on your tractor size and type. One of the more popular brands adapting to many colors of tractors talked about around here are made by Woods. I have seen them under AC, Ford, IH and others. You could start there.
