What is the most common way to buy stuff on ytmag?

In the past, I've purchased tractors and implements and have paid on delivery.

Tried to buy something this week and the guy wanted all the money up front.

I explained to the fellow I have been burned this way in the past, but he wouldn't budge and he was quite rude about it too.

Needless to say, I didn't buy his stuff.

I have purchased a few things from the cassifieds on this site. My rule is $300 and under I send the money and take the risk. I havent been burned yet.
For a higher priced tractor. I would offer contingent on my accepting the condition.
If they were delivering I would pay the freight even if I turned it down.
Risk is then shared on both sides.
Now if its a $1,000 just poney up. You get what you pay for and shouldnt expect to much for a grand.

Recently purchased a tractor from YTmag photo ad. Sent payment in full. Arranged for hauling from the hauling schedule board. Got seven hauling offers within first day. Tractor arrived in two days, exactly as described. I was happy with the transaction. Also purchased some smaller items from the classifieds and did 1/2 down 1/2 on delivery type arrangements.

Been very pleased dealing with tractor and gas engine folks. They seem to be an honest group. I haven't enjoyed trying to buy tractors off tractor dealers lots. They were my worst experiences.

As far as prices on the ads here they seem to be right on the average for this area. I see an occasional high price but on the whole they appear much much cheaper than going to auctions lately!!

i also got screwed by waiting to get paid after delivery. This man bought a tractor from me on ebay and wanted it delivered and was paying me also for delivery. I drove 4 hrs. and when i got there ,he started playing"lets make a deal". he picked the tractor apart, complained about everything he could find. He offered me $250 less or i would have to take it back after i drove 200 miles. Never again, CASH first

That may be true, but what paying first and then the truck shows up with something that isn't in the condition you were told it was in?

Or, what about sending the money and having an agreed upon delivery date, and then the guy either not delivering at all or missing the date altogether?

Easy to get burned both ways!

I pay for items when I pick them up in person. I use a certified check, and that has always worked well for me.
