OT...Did IHC make radios?

At a local auction yesterday I purchased a wooden AM table radio in original battleship gray paint with a metal tag indicating that it was manufactured for the U.S. Navy by "IHC, Chicago, Ill.", and placed in service in 1943. My question would be: is this the same IHC that we are familiar with? I know that Singer Sewing Mach. Co. made 45 Autos during WWII, but never knew that IHC produced radios along with their other non-machinery items. Thanks for tolerating this trivia.

Don't know if IHC made radios during the second
war, but they did make rifles. I have seen a few
at gun shows that were clearly marked
International Harvester.

Rauville,

International Harvester never made radios that I know of - but two of the biggest radio manufacturers in the country during the war were located in Chicago. They were Zenith and Hallicrafters. My bet is that it's a Hallicrafters, which called themselves The Hallicrafters Company, or "THC", and did a lot of government contracting for the Navy and Army Signal Corps during the war.

Some of the old radios are highly valued by collectors. With luck you'd be able to get 500 or 800 out of it -- enough to buy an old IHC tractor.
