I have a l950 Model TO-20 that belonged to my grandfather. Yesterday, I filled the gas tank,
opened the fuel knob but was unable to get it started. This morning I find that gas is dripping from the back of the carberator and the tank is nearly empty. Thanks for your help.

As Ernie said, you need to disassemble the carb. You will find a float inside. Shake it and see if there's any gas inside. If there is, it must be replaced. Otherwise, the "needle and seat" valve (attached to the float) should be replaced. Usually you can buy the needle and seat by itself or as part of a complete rebuild kit.

If possible, get someone who is familiar with carburetors to help you rebuild it. There are many small parts that can be lost or damaged if you don't know what to look for.

Linda You may need to tear into the carb and clean it.

However to get going in the mean time.

I always turn off my gas at the valve under the tank on my Ford NAA jubilee when I park it. It is a good habit to get into. When I turn the gas on. Sometimes it will start leaking like yours is doing. When it does I very lightly tap the side of the carburator with a hammerto see if I can get the float unstuck. Sometimes it will work.

Becareful if you have some raw fuel in the area. You don't want to hit it with something that could spark. Maybe a heavy piece of wood would be better in your case!! I use a hammer, but it is a very light tap. Probally about the same you would use when nailing a small nail into a sheetrock wall to hang a picture.

Good Luck.

Let us know how you come out.

Float may be stuck or goober in the needle valve. Lastly the float may have a hole in it and it is too heavy to shut the needle. Take carb off, disassemble and soak in carb cleaner. Clean internal passages with very fine wire and compressed air. Sometimes you can get away with reusing the gaskets, and sometimes they tear coming apart.
