Is it possible to plumb a Char-Lynn ps unit
into the existing hydraulic system or will I have
to use an automotive pump to supply power? Thanks
for any advice.

Depends on which char-lynn unit you use. The tourque amplifier which is mounted in line with the steering column was powered with an automotive type pump [1000 or less PSI]. The other unit has no mechanical link, the steering wheel is mounted directly to the control and cylinders control steering, this type requires 2000 PSI and depending on model # 4-8 GPM. All parts are shown on surplus center under hydraulics.link below.

I think you will be better off with an aux pump as the system you have realy doesent have a large res but it would be easy to tap in the lines at the rockshaft area where th two plugs are located. You could try and see if it works good could always add the extra pump later.
