Other than removing grease, oil, will solvent penetrate rust? Can't remember the brand name of the stuff I use,but I know it is flammable.Just wondering if I was wasting time letting parts soak for days in the solvent tank?? It sure helps getting the thick grease off.

The stuff you get from the local petroleum product distributor is also called "mineral spirits"- has a distinctive odor. Great for grease, but won't do much for rust. It may free up a siezed part after soaking (with periodic tapping), but the rust itself will not be dissolved.

Just passing on some info that was given to me years ago. Put a gallon or so of water in your parts washer along with the mineral spirits. The water goes to the bottom and becomes the filtering medium. In other words, when the dirt and grime go into the water it does not come back out. It's worked for me many years
