I once thought that, I saw a hualing forum maybe im crazy. I post on the hualing schedule that I would haul on way to pick up a tractor I bought.
But I dont know what a fair price to carge the guy want me to pick up a mower about two hours away from me. then ill have to drive that two hour plus another five to six to meet him. if he shows then I will pick up my tractor and head home. So what do you guys think I was thinking just fuel cost till i found that his mower is two hours away
Thanks

Set a price and stick with it! $1.00 to $1.25 per loaded mile is the "going rate". If someone doesn't like it, let them find someone else. Do you suppose the people that complain about your prices will be there to help you change that blow-out? What about when it's time to buy a new truck? Insurance is expensive too. If you can't make a buck, you're better off staying home and watching RFD-TV. They have some really good shows on old tractors, and it doesn't cost near as much to watch, as it does to drive someone elses tractor accross country. My dad always told me that if everyone you price work to, takes the first offer, you're probably working too cheap. Let a few walk away.

Normal charges for hauling is $1.00 to $1.25 per loaded mile. I have seen people haul backhauls for $.80 a mile just to get the load and not run empty half the time.
Now you have to decide. Do you charge him the back haul price or do you charge your self the back haul price. Do you cut the price to him just to make sure he does not go get some one else.
This is a question asked by trucking companys for longer than I can remember and farther than I can dream.
This haul you are doing for him is worth every penny of $1.00 a mile I repeat worth every penny. What if he is not on time what then.
YOU HAVE TO DECIDE. For me it is $1.00 a loaded mile or get some one else.

Thanks guys,

I not looking to make a living or anything just don't want to be short changed when helping out. It sure is out of my way to pick up the mower. I think I going to ask him for a buck a mile to pick up his mower and just cover the gas from my place to meeting him.

Since you were heading in that general direction anyhow, I would charge only for any additional miles traveled in order to accommodate the party with the mower.
You need to get at least $1.00 per loaded mile for doing this, or YOU will be losing money.

I agree with you. However look at some of these request. Seems like some want it hauled for nothing. Then you talk to them and they act like you are outragous with your price.
I agree with macc. Let them buy a truck and trailor. What would they charge.

I have had several requests from people who have already purchased the tractor, and then think I am trying to rob them when they find out the hauling is going to cost more than what they paid for the tractor. I just tell them, maybe you should have thought of that before you bought the tractor. The next time that happens to me, I think maybe I will offer to buy the tractor, and then have them deliver it to me for what they wanted to pay me.

Usaully hauling is a buck or more a loaded mile. It is not your fault the item is only 500 lbs instead of 5000 lbs.

I wont haul for less than $1.00 pr loaded mile.
You have the expense of your truck, then the trailor, and your time is worth somthing.
I figure if a guy dont want to pay me a buck a mile. Let him spend the 25,000 +/- dollars for a truck and trailor and haul his own.

$1.00-$1.25 per loaded mile is normally a fair charge.
