I hire allot of hauling done.I had one guy doing it all he was paid in full when he loaded.Worked good for a while, than he hauled a tractor I sold almost 600 miles. He never called customer about delivery ( the guy sent us 5 phone numbers) He didn't get the right farm & unloaded it( no one around). The buyer called me & ask if I shipped his tractor I said yes. He said neighbor down the road had one JUST like it in his barnyard when I came home tonight. Well the guy that got the tractor wouldn't give it to the rightfull owner Ended up with allot of phone calls to sherrif's dept. in that county. I had a copy of the online sale including the tractor's sn. with the buyers name showing. But I didn't have anything showing who delivered it & how it got there. Lucky the sherrif's office knew the guy that bought it & believed out story. They told the guy holding the tractor they were going to inpound it. He told them he would give it up if we paid storage on it. The man that bought it paid him 100 & drove it home right than. That only cost me the 100 & some phone calls Now I make the haulers sign a shipping order(found at any truck stop) when loading, telling where THEY are to deliver.I don't pay any money up front but there will be cash or bank check when they unload. The hauler is safe they have a tractor to hold till they get paid. the buyer is safe the hauler has to meet him to get paid

Sounds to like your buyer doesn't get along with his neighbor very well. Ain't that a shame.

NOT TO RIP YOU!!!!! (I REALLY MEAN THAT JUST SO OTHERS CAN LEARN)
YOU PAID UP FRONT AND PUT A TRACTOR ONTO A TRUCK AND DID NOT EVEN KNOW THE GUYS NAME. YOU ARE LUCKY IT GOT TO THE NEIGHBOR'S YARD!!
MOST BIG COMPANYS WILL LET YOU PAY ON DELIVERY BUT THESE INDEPENDENTS WANT AT LEAST HALF UP FRONT TO PAY FOR FUEL. BIG COMPANYS USUALY GIVE DRIVERS HALF UP FRONT EVEN IF YOU PAY IN FULL AT DELIVERY.
THE PAPER YOU REFURE TO IS A STANDARD "BILL OF LADING"AND IS REQUIRED FOR ALL SHIPMENTS FOR HIRE. JUST LIKE HOW MANY OF YOUR TRUCKING FIRMS HAVE HAD A "ICC"# ON THE DOOR. THIS IS A GOVERMENT LICENCE TO DO BUSSINESS IN TRUCKING BUSSINESS. SHOULD SAY "ICC MC########" AND BE PAINTED ON SIDE OF TRUCK.
SEE THESE SMALL TRACTOR HAULERS HAVE TRUCKS SMALL ENOUGH THEY HAUL THINGS UNLICENCED. EVEN IF THEY GET STOPPED THEY CAN SHOW THAT THE TRUCK IS IN THEIR NAME AND WHO CARRIES A BILL OF SALE ON A TRACTOR.HAULING MY OWN TRACTOR.
WHEN IN TRUTH IF YOU PAY SOME ONE TO HAUL SOMETHING THEY ARE SUPPOSE TO BE LICENCED "ICC#" KEEP RECORDS FOR STATE FUEL TAXES ECT..... YOU AS A SHIPPER ARE REQUIRED TO FILL OUT A BILL OF LADING AND GIVE COPIES TO TRUCKING FIRM.
ONE OTHER THING--- YOU DO THIS LONG ENOUGH AND YOU WILL SEE..... YOU HIRE JOHN DOE TO HAUL -- HE SIGNS JOHN DOE ON YOUR SHIPPING PAPER AND RELIZES THE TRACTOR IS WORTH MORE THAN YOU ARE PAYING FOR IN FREIGHT CHARGES. YOU CAN FIGURE OUT THE REST!!!!! HAS HAPPENED!!!
TERIBABLE WE LIVE IN SUCH TIMES THAT YOU ARE CONSIDERED A CROOK TILL PROVEN NOT A CROOK. BUT EVERYONE NEEDS TO C.Y.A.

Yes I knew his name he had hauled several tractors for me before with out any problems .What I meant was I didn't have any paper work with his name on it proving was the one that hauled it. Now they have to sign for it & they get a copy

I have hauled several tractors where I was paid in full up front, even though I asked for only half of it up front, and I also made sure that I had a phone # of the person who was to recieve the tractor, and then called that person, first when I had the tractor all loaded and chained down, and once again when I estimated I was within an hour or two of the final destination, just to ensure that someone would be present when I unloaded, so that I knew for certain I had the right place. I refuse to unload a tractor if I am not sure I am in the right place.
