Mystery lawn tractor ?

Hi, this may be the wrong place to post this, but it seemed like the best bet.

I just bought a used lawn tractor ("riding mower") that I'm trying to find parts for. Rigth now, it's in good shape, but that won't last forever.

It says "Craftsman" on the engine, seat and ignition key. The engine is a 12.5HP Briggs I/C (says "made for Sears -- Craftsman" on it).

The tractor frame says "Western International, Model 3912-2001, Code 8053J". When I checked with Sears they say that they never sold any such lawn tractor & that their computer system wouldn't even accept this model and code number.

Any help to shed light on this would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Lee

Fwiw, I just ran the model number through the Sears computer. While it recognizes it, it also says parts are no longer available to Sears from the original manufacturer.

Lee: Bus Driver is right, that M/N is a Noma number. Good luck finding oem parts.

There is a forum here for Lawn and Garden tractors- lots of good help available there. Western International made the Dynamark line for a time- not sure if there were before or after AMF. I think Noma now has the Dynamark name. My experience with the older Dynamark is that no parts are available as original stuff. I have had good luck with substituting other parts, such as the idler pulley for the deck and using generic belts. Maybe the unit you have is put together from different parts and Sears really did not sell the unit when new. Sears suppliers rarely place their name anywhere on the item.

Sears/Craftsman do not make their tractors, they are outsourced to the cheapest bidder for that year/model. It could be a Murray or MTD or whoever else bid on the contract that year.

Nothing with that Western Int'l name in my archives or reference materials for parts/pieces.Number appears kinda"Murrayish",maybe check w/Murray.Someone may have cannibalized a Sears for parts to renovate a Murray.

You have ran into a problem that is common today with Sears. When a product gets so old all information falls out of their system and all the new bred of [service people]says is its not in the computer end of story. A lot of prouducts that we {Sears} sold the manfurature has went out of business or lost in the crowd. In the early years till about the 80's the sources did not change much infact some companies prouduction was for Sears very little for others. Today that has changed but they still do not change sources on big ticket items each year it would be to expense and to hard to control. My information comes from being employed for 34 by Sears MLD

You are right for sure. Just ask sears for information on their Ford Model A to tractor conversion. They look at you like you are crazy.

Don't believe it's a Craftsman, but hang on to it. Just hope it's not another phony "green & yellow" marketing experiment.
