Please Help!
I found in an old celler tonight two tractors,MT and a HN both are in good shape it looks like they have been restored. The guy wants to sell but I can only afford one which one should I pick. Which has highest collector value. What is a ballpark price for these tractors.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to do this,I'm very new at this Thanks !

The "HN" will far out value the "MT" any day. Not only is the "MT" common,it was a pretty poor specimen at it's best. The tractor did fair, if you could keep the engine cool, but the JD mounted plows and tillers drove many folks to tears and frustrations. Take the HN and never look back before he changes his mind.

I sure agree with what other have said. Buy the one that suits you best, not to make money, but rather to enjoy. However, I believe you were simply asking price advice so you knew what to expect to pay. The condition of the tractor plays a big part. I believe you said you thought they had been restored. If they run good, have good paint and rubber, I'm going to say the MT should be around that $2,000.00 dollar figure. As for the HN, well those are more rare, and I don't think I know to much about those. I'm only guessing based on regular H's I've seen sell around here. Those restored are about $3500.00, so this one possibly around that $4,000.00 figure.
I hope this may help somewhat, and best of luck. I hope you get much enjoyment from your tractor.

If both of these tractors are Deeres, then the HN would probably be the most collectable. They only made a few of these, and if it is a true HN, then you have found a real jewel. The MT would be a more user-friendly tractor. More modern features, more horsepower, cheaper and easier to find parts. As to price, that is subject to the seller and how much people are wanting to pay. If these tractors are a different color, then someone else will have to give you the answer.

As was previously stated, get the one that you will get the most enjoyment out of. If you are purchasing something to make a fast buck, or just to say you have a collectable tractor, then you will not enjoy it as much as you would if you purchase one you personally like. Unless you pay an outrageous price for either of these tractors, and they do not need much to get them going, then you will get back what you put into them if you decide to sell. I personally don't look at what I would get back from selling my tractors. If I did, I would be really depressed. Put a bunch of money in the ones I have and know that there is no way to get back even a portion of what I spent. The time spent looking for the right parts, putting it all together and seeing the finished product is payment enough. And if it wasn't enough, the time spent with my son on these projects and the good times we have had will make for some long lasting memories that I will cherish forever.
I'll get off of my soapbox now, and let someone else take the floor.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

I can understand asking what their value is.

But of late I see a lot of questions avbout which tractor should I get because it has the most collector's value.

Seems that's the wrong way to go - in it for the big bucks.

Grab the tractor that _you_ like. Both are just a lump of iron. Collect or restore a tractor because you like the way it looks; or it is something your family used to own; or it is the brand you like; or it will do some work for you. You'll get years of enjoyment that way.

If you just buy the one that is a better collector item, it'll sit in a corner, you won't care about it, and where's the fun?

Have fun and enjoy. That's the pont. Most collectors in the tractor market are looking to buy low - real low. It's not like classic cars where you want $200,000 for the perfect restoration & armed guards at all times. Buy something cheap, get a few parts & a can of paint. Make it yours, and use it. Seems to be the fun of tractors, not looking for big bucks.

(This is not a flame towards you Bovine - you just wanted to know the values. Sorry I don't even know what tractors you are talking about without giving us a color! Just how I've seen some messages of late, & happen to be commenting in your thread.)

Amen !!

While collectability is nice I bought my tractors for working. They ain't pretty but they are desireable to some. Oliver 550 and AC D10. I bought the 550 after much research and it fits my needs to a TEE. The D10 kinda fell in my lap. Go to the AC archives and query for Mystery AC. On both rigs I had no idea of collectability until I started hanging out on this site some time ago.

Like Paul said, get the one you like, make it yours and you will be happy. I know I am. Sorry I cannot offer advise as to price or future potential value because I do not know about JD.

ShepFL - You lucky bugger, to have an Alis D10 fall in your lap. I love the looks of those little D10 & D12s.

Oh and I agree with everyone here. Get what you like and it will mean more to you and give you more enjoyment.
