Have a JD 2510 gasser, runs fine but slows down going up hills. She will come to a stop in third gear on a relatively slight grade, then after a minute start moving again. Was told it is the clutch. If so, the tractor has to be split...what kind of world of hurt am I in for?

Perhaps the clutch only needs adjusting. Do you have the necessary free play in the clutch pedal before you feel resistance. If there is no free play it can cause what you describe. Only takes a few minutes to adjust. Do you have an OM?

Depends. I'm not really familiar with JD parts prices, a comparable Ford tractor would need about $400.00 in after market parts or $600.00 in parts purchased at a dealer. Do it yourself and that's it. Pay a "Roscoe's Rapid Reepair" sort of place to do the labor add $450.00, or pay a JD dealer and add $1000.00. The best place to begin your parts quest is "Market Place" "Tractor Parts" right here at Yesterday's Tractor. The link is to your upper left.

OK, so the tractor's ground speed slows down without the engine slowing as well? This is a Syncro-Range, right? If so, you're in for a new clutch. About a 10 hour job at dealer, will be around $800 for parts/machining the flywheel. Between $1500-$2000 all said and done. If it's a Powershift, it's gonna be way more.

It's a Syncro and I was afraid it needed a clutch. I may have to become a tractor mechanic for this job... A buddy was guessing $250 in parts and another $750 labor if he did it. About $27,000 if I took it to the dealer. ; -)
