What is the oldest battery you now have or have had that is still working? I have a 8 volt in my m farmall that is 5 years old and still going strong. Have had car batteries last up to 7 years. Just thought it would be interesting question to ask thanks.

Just replaced the battery(Motorcraft - factory) in my 1984 F150 last April. So beat up (the truck, that is) that I only use it as a snowplow truck for the lane and some friends. My brother is a service manager at local Ford dealer and even he couldn't believe it..19-20 years and it's been let go dead several times, and the drain from the plow pump over the last 4 years has near killed it several times as well. If not for the plow, it might still be going....

At first I was going to mention the old car battery my father bought back in the 70's that is still going.

But then I remembered my father-in-law's old multi-meter that he bought as a boy back in the 50's. It's still going just fine with the original dry cell battery.

No Joke here, all serious.Guy up the road lost his sister in 1957.Her employer,a local "well to do getleman" had hired her part time to watch after his mother on the weekends while he was "stepping out" with the ladies.Well, the girl, who was like 20 or 21 or so,had this boyfriend, who wasnt the same race as her,and here in the south, back then, that was completly unheard of.Well the girls daddy found out about this and he and some of his hooded friends hung him up.The girl supposedly shot herself in the head over this in the car!Well, the car was still new,it only had like 2300 miles on it then.It ended up that the girls oldest brother got the car and put maybe another 25000 or so on it when he died in the car.Well to make this long story shorter, the car has a battery in it,its been in there as long as Ive known the people, which is about 20 yrs and it will still turn the engine over one or two times. It wont start it up unless its jumped or charged for a few hours, but it will hold a charge.I dont know if its ever been changed or when, but it will start the car.Its an EXCELLO 6 volt.

I have an Interstate chassis battery in my diesel motorhome that is dated and stamp coded Sept. 1994; still tests good and starts the ol' Cummins 8.3 right now. I keep a trickle charger on it, it has never been low and I keep it serviced and clean.

Had a no name Japanese battery in my 82 Olds for 10 years. The battery was 2-3 years old when I got it. I wish I had seen how long it would have gone. I replaced it because I didn't trust it anymore but it was still strong. Had absolutly no name on it anywhere.

Well, I don't still have it, but we had a John Deere battery in a John Deere 140 garden tractor that lasted 27 years. It was origional equipment on the tractor. Was a 12v tractor battery - not the little toy batteries that they put in garden tractors now. We used the dickens out of that tractor, even used it many times to jumpstart other tractors and cars. I don't expect that kind of service out of any other battery! On the other side of the ledger, I bought a new GM car back in the mid '70s with a Delco battery that lasted 13 months. Went out to the car I had junked when I bought the new one, pulled the used Diehard out of it and drove that battery for another two years.

We bought a new 1970 Ford pickup and it still had the original battery in it when we sold it 9 years later.

Good quality batteries last me 10 years. Carquest, East-Penn, the good Delco Freedom, the good Motorcraft. Delco and Motorcraft seem to have some lower end batteries that don't last very long. Stay away from anything made by Exide, read the fine print on the battery.

I got a used OEM Motorcraft battery from the salvage pile at a place about 7 years ago to put in an old car I no longer drove due to rust. I used the battery to start and run the engine every now and then. Always started even after sitting months. Finally the car got junked and the battery is in my daily driver truck and going strong. Not bad for a battery from the salvage/recycle pile I got for free.

still using a pair of Delco Freedom heavy duty's in our D4. Not much winter use, and not much mait. on them either. This is likely to be their last summer, now at 14 years. Also got 9 winters, and a summer out of a couple Motorcraft's in our trucks. Usually only get 4 or 5 years from the Exide's 4dlt's in the tractors.

Back in the 60s, I took a 10 yr. old 6v out of my grandpa`s old 53 chevy and used it for 3 more years in a dune buggy I made from a VW. Bought a new 84 Toyota 4x4 and traded it in on a new 91 Dodge Cummins. Still had the Jap battery in it and 176,000 miles on it. Had a riding mower battery go 5.5 years one time.

Since November '95, I've had a Motorcraft 12V in
a 150 Ford, 5L engine. Replaced two starters, but not that battery. Now DieHards have those fees:
pay to test that it's failed, pay to install. No
more rushing to DieHard, I'll make a few calls for
my next battery.
