I just acquired an "Ideal" wagon unloader. Can anyone tell me anything about it?
Thanks,
Tommy

Wagon unloaders, were used on bulk wagons(grain/corn) and silage boxes before front/side self unloading units were developed.Wagon boxes had a sliding bulkhead at the front and a "hatchback" type rear gate. The sliding bulkhead was connected by cables to a pipe/shaft running across the rear of the wagon below the tailgate. To unload the wagon, endgate was lifted and propped up,"Wagon unloader" attached(plugged into)end of cross pipe. The unloader then turned the pipe by rachet action, wrapping the cables on the pipe and "winching" the sliding bulkhead to the rear, pushing the load out.Once the wagon was empty, the unloader was disconnected, the bulkhead slid forward, endgate closed and was off to the field for another load.Pretty much an obsolete and low value item these days, but an interesting piece of equiptment none the less.Would make a nice restoration, along w/a wagon set up for it at shows etc.
