Tractor V ibration

I was mowing heavy brush with my JD 1250 tractor. Without any appearent reason (meaning I did not just run over a stump), the tractor started a violet vibration. This vibration appeared to be at about 120 cycles/second, not dependent upon engine speed? It I were to put the transmission into neutral, the vibration continues. I could stop the vibration by dropping either the front-end loader or the mower deck, but would restart by lifting the implement.
I do not hear any noise coming from the engine. I was thinking that a bent crankshaft would be making noise??
Any ideas/comments would be appreciated.

With everything shut off and the mower not turning, lift the deck and I bet when you look under it you'll see that one of the flail knives is "stuck back on itself", meaning not freely turning on the end of the main shaft but jammed up so that the main shaft is way out of balance. If you crawl under the deck, always block it into place first.

are ya sure that your brushog isnt outa balance, i had about 3 inches break off the end of a brushog blade once and it shook like crazy from the outa balance

yea it seems pretty logical to check that first, but when he says that it isnt affected by rpm of the engine, then i gota figure this guy is way off base since most any mechanical tractor thing would be affected by engine rpm, so who knows what this guy is figuring, probably just another city guy that bought 10 acres and a tractor. scary isnt it?

Yep, I think you are right and it is. As there was no response to anyone, particularly the 'no one', I think we can assume the worst!!! Seems to me that the internet comes before thinking for some.

Is there enough oil in the back end to keep the hydraulic pump pickup covered? Not sure about this 'doesn't vary with engine speed'. Bent crankshaft vibration would vary with speed, as would most mechanical sources. regards, RAB

Thanks, I may be mistaken about the vibration and its not being speed dependent. I'm not at the tractor now, so I cannot verify. You mentioned about the 'hydraulic pump pickup covered'. Can you explain the link between the hydraulic pump and a vibration? Also, I assume that the transmission and hydraulic resovours are the same, correct? RONB

You said the vibration re-occurs if you raise the implement. That requires oil pressure and flow. If all the available oil is now used to hold up your bucket or mower, then the pump would be trying to pump air/oil mixture and that might well cause a vibration. Just trying to help on the information supplied. Would not know whether the hydraulic pump uses back end oil or not. You should be consulting your operator manual for this information. Regards, RAB
