I've come into an oportunity to do some light (paying) work with a tractor. (Light disc, bushhoggin, broadcast seeding e.t.c.) My Fergy is too much tractor to pull with my little truck.

I saw this little Yanmar tractor, which looked to be a very comfortable size (to pull), and I think it could handle the workload. However I would much rather get an old antique tractor. I was considering a Farmall A, but on investigation I discovered that these machines can easily tip the scale at 3000 pounds, which puts it right in the same weight class as my Ferg. I don't think a Cub is enough tractor.

I'd like something which comes in at about 2000 pounds (with liquid or wheel weights). Any comments or suggestions much appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of truck do you have that can't handle a 6000# load? You need to think truck trading, not tractor trading.

Old tractors are cast iron, big, heavy - even the 'little' ones.

Any kind of tractor that is lighter in weight than the ferguson will not do the same kind of work, you need to be looking at larger trucks, not smaller tractors.

I agree with Hay Sam. You would be better off with a bigger truck. (In place of a smaller tractor) I don't know what kind of truck/trailer you're using, but I haul a Massey-Ferguson 50 around on a 7000lb GVW trailer, behind a Toyota Tundra pick-up. Never had a problem yet. I have even hauled my Deere 2440 (6500lbs, with wieghts) on the same trailer. I would rather have a bigger truck sometimes, but I'll make due with what I've got.

kydirtfarmer,

Of course you had no problems, that is a full sized truck with equal or better towing capacity as it's competitors. Besides it is built with Toyota Quality.

A massey 50 is a good size but hardly big.

The 50 isn't too big, but the Deere 2440 is a bit bigger. I haul it on the same trailer, with the same truck, and no problems. The point is, you can haul this sort of tractor with a half ton truck.

An Antique tractor is a piece of American heritage. Pulling an antique tractor with a rice burner Toyota truck is sinful.

The Tundra is built in Princeton, Indiana. I have to buy the best truck that I can, with my money. It is the best truck on the market....I traded in a GMC 3/4 ton, on the Toyota. I,ve had Fords, Chevy's and Dodges. I'll take my Toyota ANY day. MUCH BETTER THAN ANYTHING ELSE ON THE ROAD.

Dave might I say you may need to trade trucks.
