Or any other experienced person.
Does a can of starting fluid get stale like gas after a few years?

As a fan of both Oliver and Moline diesels, which can be a bit difficult to start in cold weather, I use just a "puff" of ether. Consequently, I don't think I've ever used a whole can before the propellant goes south and the contents just sort of drools out the nozzle. At which point, I remove the breather and let it drip into the intake. It still starts the tractors, and some of the cans are several years old.

I am flattered that you think of me as being experienced. I am a 27 year old farm girl who does not even had a real boyfriend. I have operated most machines used on an Ozark Mountain cattle farm but do not know much about starting fluid getting stale as we use about two cans a month in winter and sometimes the local urchins steal the cans for their chemistry experiments. sorry I could not be of more help.

Chemistry experiments? You don't think that they are squirting it down their throats do you Miss Grundy? A guy told me that if you catch a couple of your pigs fighting,if you give em a squirt of "Easy Start" on their noses and they soon forget about fighting, cos they get a quick 'high' on it, then after they come back from their 'trip' they forget what they were fighting about! It is supposed to work on scrapping dogs too but I don't think I would relish getting too near to a couple of angry dogs.

Ether stays fresh forever in the can. I've seen where the propellant (propane?) slowly leaks out over a period of several years so it doesn't spray very good. But the liquid that comes out will still fire an engine just fine!
