Before quiting it acted like the engine was seizing up; but after it would quit it would still turn over just fine but not start. We replaced the head gasket...We can't get it started. The fuel pump is pumping but we don't know how much it's suppost to be. We have worked on it and worked on it to get air out of the line but it still won't start????? ????? Help please.

Are you sure the valves are adjusted right, can u easily pull the injectors to see if u have compression blowing out or if u have a gauge check em out. U seem pretty sure u have fuel, try just a tiny bit of ether to see if it will run on it, this will let u know if u have a fuel problem or a internal problem. Put your hand partially over the air intake and crank it to see if u have a good vacuum.

cathy, first off ether is bad on any diesel or gas engine causes the rings to collapse and or detonate a piston if used too much. 1st put on a new fuel filter make sure it is full then turning over the engine crack the fuel line coming in to the fuel filter do the same on the outlet side then go to the injector pump still turning over the engine crack the line from the filter to the pump now you go to the injector lines if you know the fireing order crack #1 and so on then do the same at the injectors may have to do this a couple of times make sure all fittings are tight, some injectors and injector pumps have seales on the lines if you are still drawing air check all the lines and pump and injectors for seals some are like a copper ferrel and some are rubber o rings when trying to start I use w-d 40 hope this helps..... ...Jer

Oh Cathy if you have a 12 volt electric fuel pump, you can hook it up to the inlet side of you'r fuel filter and bleed the system up to the injector pump. you pump out of a five gal. pail bleed the line from the 12 volt pump to the fuel filter then continue as above..... Jer

Cathy, I don't have a 190 XT; my friend and his dad did, but it was several years ago. I do have a 175 AC that is very hard to start after breaking the fuel lines. Can a 190 be pulled and started? My dealer told me to always start mine this way after breaking the fuel system. Crack open the front injector and let all the air be forced out after it gets cranked. It is a little messy, but it runs the air on out. Another alternative is to use ether to start it and keep it running till the air goes out the front injector-line connection. Never use ether on a hot engine. I hope this helps you to get her going.

Thanks for your reply Steve. We can't pull ours cause it's hydraulic coupled transmission. But we have pulled all the gas lines before it goes into the injector and bled the lines for a long long time then tried starting it (along with ether); but no go. That's why I asked how much fuel the injector pump put out. Even though it was starting before. The injector pump would run about $1,000.00 so we need to be sure what's the matter.
