O.t. worst roads

This is sort of off topic, but not really.
What are some of the absolute worst roads, highways, any of you have been across while hauling your tractors? I am talking about roads that are sorely in need of repair, resurfacing, or a total rebuild.
I will start out by nominating U.S. 63 from the Iowa, Missouri border, up to Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Anyone agree with me?

I know that road well. We travel it each spring to go turkey huntin' down near Bloomfield. The same buddy that goes there with me works for IDOT (trackhoe operator) and drives his tractor trailer with that hoe down in that area all the time. He says it's the worst stretch of pavement he has to travel...and he hates it witha passion!

Hey fellows, keep in mind our road funds are "managed" by the best politicians money can buy!!! If you want good roads elect someone that lives on a bad one, see how fast it is put in a-one shape. Anyone agree?

Don't remember what the # was, but there was a road between Leigh, NE, and Omaha, NE, that almost destroyed my new pickup back in 2000. Told my buddy after about 50 miles of the return trip, that we'd leave the D*@# tractor out there if the roads didn't get any better. Almost bit my tounge off a couple of times.

Hehe..... .after we got the tractor weighted on the trailer correctly, roads weren't so bad after all.

I run a trucking company, so I have heard about all the rough roads all over the country, but I will agree with the post below that some of NC's interstates are horrible. I didn't even pull a trailer with me last weekend, and I-40 between Raleigh and Winston Salem skeered the heck out of me. I HATE THOSE CEMENT BARRIERS!!! I just wonder why they feel the need to put them right on the yellow line. No room for error at all!!

Bear with me for a moment, because it isn't for the reasons you outlined.

Texas has many dirt roads with what they call suger sand. It makes beach sand look like hard pack. You can sink into it over a foot just sitting there. It's not the whole road, it'll just be in patches, like ice in the winter. And like black ice, you can't see it. If you aren't flying along, you'll sink and probably get stuck when you hit it. If you're flying, you'll keep up speed, but have absolutely no directional control.

Any of you ever been in NC...try I-77 around Statesville, it has been repaired but is even more like a washboard than before. Then try I-40 around Chapel Hill, everything is under construction and they have you driving in the breakdown lane. Problem is it has those "wake up" grooves cut in it, and they topped these with blacktop, so now you get a roller coaster that will throw you off the road....it's so bad they have signs telling trucks to use the other lane...

Most roads in KY other than interstate. Twisting, narrow, no gaurd rails.

Penn has terrible roads. Pulling my 34' fifth wheel camper south on Rte 81 last summer, I hit a strech with concrete pavement (may have been paved over with black top) and the expansion joints turned into substantial bumps, just the right spacing to start my truck and trailer bouncing back and fourth with resonance that kept building up. After a mile or so my rig looked like the Low-rider in that Cheach and Chong movie, bouncing up and down practically with the wheels coming off the ground. I had to practically come to a stop to get the thing back under control.

Gee, I thought all they had was construction sites joined by "construction ahead" signs..I went east to west on their fine interstates last summer and lost an exhaust and a transmission. I was going so slow I didn't notice till I got to NY!

I've not hauled a tractor on them, but I'd nominate the 'letter' state highways in southeastern Missouri. I used to make service runs through the area (about 8 years ago) in my pickup... I swear I could see my own taillights on some of those hairpin curves...

All letter roads in Missouri are crooked, they are done that way on purpose, If you ever get lost, all you have to do is keep driving, pretty soon you will meet yourself coming back, and then you can stop and ask yourself directions!
