hhhmmmm, tried just about everything, I even took hacksaw blade ground back edge down as to fit in the broken sparkplug. Made 4 cuts around inside of broke off plug. DURN broken plug is still in the hole. What makes me extremely irritated is that this is a complete Factery remanufactured Industrial 172CI, In all the years of turning a wrench, I have never broke off a sparkplug in the head, or any other bolt for that matter..:>((

Head Replacement!!!
Oh well, time to break out the o'l tools, pull the head (as flying belgian suggested)remove broken piece or replace head with another one I have sitting on the shelf..

Thanks everyone for all the good suggestions. In most cases, most would probably have worked, BUT this one is really stuborn.

I just did a 3020 last year with the same problem. I did the hack saw trick and a little heat and got it out. The other three came out but not easy. Either you can use a small flexable magnet to get the filings out or take a vacuum and reduce the end down a ways. I used the magnet and a small clear hose with a long blow gun shoved into the hose a few inches from the end to make a vacuum. Tractor is still running fine. This tractor was near electicity but nowhere near a shop other than the tree it was sitting under.

Mike ,I can't stay out of trouble. Been told people who stay out of trouble are boring, therefore I don't want to stay out of trouble...:>))

Hope you had a great day.

We've had a great day, have both kids and spent most of the day tearing down my Ford 860.

Found a few more problems after removing head, will post pic's in little while.

Know of a broken plug in the head of a 5.0 Chev car. Gug used an easy out and out it come. Easy out was to long so ground it down to the lenght needed. The twisted end.

Isn't it amazing how something so simple can turn into a big mess. You might as well do a valve job since the head is off. Before you run out and look for a used head try cutting the piece out with a cutting torch. If you are quick the thread piece will cut before the cast iron head.I have also broken a plug off , it gives you a instant real bad feeling. The old VW's were famous for plug problems. Thy would just strip out the threads. I have done that a time or two also. Stan

hold up there just a second .. you give up to easy there is a lot you can do yet.. have you tried taping into the spark plug with a left hand tap then screwing in a left handed bolt to turn out the plug??? soak good with liquid wrench laso try a little heat around the plug hole . or dry ice in the hloe to srink the plug..

I FORGOT ONE THING HOW TO STOP THE FILING FROM GETTING INTO THE CYLINDER CUT A PIECE OF MATCH BOOK COVER INTO A CIRCLE SO FOLDED IN HALF IT WILL FIT INTO THE HOLE PUT A SMALL HOLE IN THE CENTER OF IT AND RUN A PIECE OF FISHING LINE THROUGH THE HOLE AND TIE A KNOT IN IT HOLD ON TO ONE END AND PUSH THE CARD BOARD WITH THE KNOT DOWN THE HOLE THEN FILL WITH CANDLE WAX. AS YOU PULL ON THE LINE. COTTON BALLS WILL WORK FOR THIS ALSO. THE WAX WILL SEAL THE HOLE FROM THE DEBRE .
