Was looking through a late-arriving Mar/Apr issue of Antique Power Magazine and believe it or not, there was an Allis Chalmers 1952 model CA that sold at the famous Barret-Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale Arizona in January. It was an ultra-restoration with even all the castings ground smooth like a babies bum before what looked like 25 coats of Persian Orange paint. It sold for $25000 US plus an 8% buyer's fee, can you believe that? Just shows you what kind of money those antique car guys have jingling around in their pocket. Believe it or not, the restorer painted the wheels the wrong color. Front wheels black and rear rims black (instead of orange fronts and silver rear rims), at least the article said it was wrong.

I saw that article. Boy, did that guy over pay. I have a nice CA for sale for just $14,950. Front wheel painted any color you want! Those boys must be laundring drug money.

I worked as a allis mechanic 15 years ago in central indiana and one of the old timers at the dealer ship remembered seeing allis tractors with black rims instead of silver. he even had some old sales literature showing black rims. this always caused a lively conversation at lunch time.

#1 daughter once made cookies and took the last of the dough to make a "big cookie." It was forgotten in the over until the smoke detector reminded her that it was probably done enough.

#1 son seized the opportunity and plastic wrapped the "carbon cookie" to show anyone who came by what a marvelous baker his sister was.

Over a year later, our local Christian School was holding a fund-raiser auction and Jason donated that cookie. Annalisa's cookie brought in over $80.

Sometimes, auctions take on a life of their own.

Yeah, I read that article, too. Seems a bit ridiculous. But, I kind of got the idea that maybe they painted the wheels wrong to give it some contrast to appeal to the car guys, who wouldn't know the difference anyway. I thought the black rims looked pretty cool.
