Was wondering if anyone could help me out with this. I just fixed my tach and found thet the cable was bad. Ordered a new one and it came today. Installed it and it still does not work. There is something wrong with where it goes into the distributor. Is there a gear or something in there? Is this a common problem. Do I have to take the distributor of to fix it and re-time the engine? Thanks for any help, Kyle

As stated before, the tach is operating. The tractor is an IH 2444 and the problem is surely in the distributor

It would help if we knew what tractor your talking about. Yes there shold be a gear in the distributor and your tach could be bad at the head. To check the head you should be able to either use an electric drill with a short piece of cable or with your fingers sometimes you can get the needle to bounce it only turns one way so it will not move the wrong way.If you have to pull the distributor with #1 at TDC the engine should be timed so all you have to do is look at the rotor cap for location and mark it. hope this helps.
