I want to know if your pony motor has electric start. Does it have a generator on big motor? Bob only has one owner's manual and parts book. Just interested.

MY D2 IS AN ELECTRIC START, MEANING IT DOES NOT HAVE A PONY MOTOR. IT HAS A GENERATOR ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND A HEAVY DUTY STARTER ON THE LEFT SIDE. IT CAME FROM THE FACTORY THAT WAY AND AS LONG AS YOU KEEP GOOD BATTERY'S IN, IT STARTS REAL EASY WITH A SHOT OF EITHER. THIS IS THE ONLY ELECTRIC START I HAVE SEEN. SEVERAL OTHER GUYS AROUND HERE WITH D2'S ALL HAVE PONY'S. WE USED TO HAVE A OLDER D2MANY YEARS AGO WITH A PONY ROPE START. WHAT A PAIN TO START. WE RIGGED A CHAIN SAW MOTOR WITH A PULLEY AND BELT TO GET THE PONY STARTED. ALSO MINE DOES NOT HAVE A DECOMPRESSION VALVE TO AID IN STARTING LIKE THE DEERE DIESELS. I HAVE A PARTS BOOK BUT NO MANUAL. WHAT SHAPE IS YOURS IN AND HAVE YOU HAD IT LONG? ANYTHING ELSE, JUST ASK. TED

I also have a D2-5U. Mine has an electric start for the pony motor. A big generator on the diesel for charging. The pony has a pulley and belt to the govenor. the pully is notched to take a starter rope, but have never tried. the pony has pet cocks on the cylinders (for hand starting?) and the diesel has a decompression handle. All the controls are in a group on the left side. I must have a leak into the sump of the pony because I always drain out a ton of water when changing the oil. I use it for logging and would love to find the winch that attaches to the back. any ideas?
Thanks, Rob

THANKS ROB FOR YOUR INFO ON YOUR D2. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE WINCH YOUR ARE NEEDING. OUR LOCAL SAWMILL , WHEN THEY WERE STILL IN BUSNESS, USED A IH TD ? TO POWER THE MILL VIA BELT. THEY HAD A D2 WITH BLADE TO SHOVE LOGS UP TO THE MILL AND FOR PULLING LOGS FROM THE WOODS. HE USED A LOG CHAIN AND LOG TONGS. SORRY, NO INFO ON YOUR WINCH. YOU MIGHT CHECK WITH THE ANTIQUE CATERPILLER MACHINERY OWNERS CLUB AT Link TED
