Just got back to our camper after completing day two of the WMT Tractorcade through NE Ia. another BEAUTIFUL day. Started in Elkader, then to Gunder for a "pit" stop and through Postville to Clermont (home of Historic Montauk) for lunch. Then from Clermont south and east back through Gunder (a cool little town) then south and west to anorher cool little town of Elgin for an afternoon pit stop. We then did a loop south-east, west ant north that brought us back to Elgin. We then went west to the town of West Union to the Fayette Co. fairgrounds. We have our 470 tractors parked there for the night. Tomorrow we go from W. Union back to Oelwein where we started.

Being from Ks, I am really enjoying N.E. Iowa. I believe the Norwegians settled this part of Iowa. I can see why. it is BEAUTIFUL! Being an old Ks farm boy, I can't imagine farming those hills though!

Maybe another post upon completion (if my 48 MM UTS makes it) tomorrow.

Hope to see some folks in Homestead Ia this weekend.

Gary

Gary:

We usually try to get there about an hour before we are scheduled to leave. I will try to stop by. Besides Olivers, we are also interested in MM tractors. We have a 44 ZTU and a 51 RTE. You are right NE Iowa was settled by the Norwegians. They found it especially appealing with it being so wooded with rolling hills and valleys. It reminded them of their homeland which many of them were never able to return to again.

I will try to catch up with you tomorrow.

Gary:

Sorry I didn't catch up with you today. We got there around 10:00 and your group was already leaving early. At the morning break as Group 7 was pulling in Group 5 was pulling out. So we missed you again.

We have been on all of the WMT Tractorcades and this one was the driest.

Maybe we can talk next year.

My daughter & I have been on the ride as well on our 1951 Oliver 66 with the buddy seat. We are tractor # 721. We are in the fast group and run with the big late model IH tractors. Our family has been on all 8 of the WMT Tractorcades. This has been one of the nicest routes and we have had some of the best weather ever. Looking forward to day 3 tomorrow. Also Looking forward to the WHO ride in a little less than 2 weeks in the Oceola area and the KGLO ride in late July in scenic NE Iowa.
