Hello.
I purchased a FE-35 with gasoline engine last weekend. I´ve got one little problem:
This engine uses gasoline and here in germany only unleaded gasoline is available. Can i use this or is it better to ad lead-additives to it?

Thanks
Friedhelm

That tractor was built in an age when lead was something new to gasoline primarily to raise octane, not as a valve lubricant. It won't hurt the engine to use unleaded fuel, but most lead substitutes are not great at valve lubrication. The engine should already have hardened valves and valve seats. Plugs will last longer with unleaded gasoline and the whole fuel system will probably stay cleaner with unleaded fuel.

And while you are at it, use a modern high detergent oil, say a high quality 10W30 instead of the straight weights recommended 50 years ago. The modern oils are far less prone to gumming and corroding bearing inserts and lubricate better all around. They also tolerate condensation better and keep the engine much cleaner inside.

If the motor does not smoke,I'd use either lead substitute or change the valve seats to hardened ones.

Unleaded is fine - no additives needed. Besides, it burns cleaner.
