"I have a JD model 650 2 cyl diesel 4wd tractor,1981 model, build by yanmar of Japan. I had it in 4-wd mode & the lever that shifts from 4-wd to 2-wd just flops back and forth with no tension. It is in 4-wd now & works ok but I'm wondering if anyone has advise as how to repair this, short of taking tractor apart. Deere dealer says all I have to do is remove upper plate and remove lever screwplate on left bottom side and pull out lever. Is there a pin on the shaft that can be replaced without removing the whole transmission.

I have a 670. Let me look in my manual at home. I have a parts cataloge that might give some clues.
