so my grandmother just called. he recieved a bill from medicaid for $117 grand. she was power of attorney for a friend of hers that was in the nursing home for 4 years, paid nursing home each month from her friend"s money, friend died, had about $1300 left in account.

so the nusring home billed medicaid(for what we dont know) and medicaid decides to pass the buck to us(how nice of them).

so, being good sensible americans, we will settle this thing quickly and honestly

SO to the federal US of A government-SHOVE IT!!

Simple since she has power of attorney she is the one that they send the bill to. Doesn't mean that she has to pay it out her own money just that she has to take care of all of her assets and determine what there is left for the government to get. The $1300 is part of that.

She might want to talk to an attorney about this matter.

Better to get the facts first. Reaction can come later. "Anger is the wind that blows out the lamp of the mind".

I dunno, I'd calm down and have an attorney double check the paperwork.

Call my cynical, but gotta wonder if the nursing home tried to double dip getting private payer from the women (via the holder of power of attorney) and also billed Medicare. If that's the case, you won't be telling the feds to shove it so much as giving a deposition to your friendly local U.S. Attorney as part of their fraud case.

Most likely, it's another "computer glitch"
