well i now am the proud owner of a '91 chevy silverado 1500. i'm going to be going to tractor pulls and was wondering if it's alright to hook a trailer right to the bumper for pulling a 7000 lb tractor. or should i get a reciever hitch put on? T.I.A

A trailer loaded with a 7000 lb pulling tractor is way too much for a 1500 Chev. You need a 2500 Chev at the very least.

I've pulled a 16 ft bumper hitch trailer many a mile with a 1967 Ford F-100 upgraded to a 1 ton and the most weight that I ever pulled was 8000 lbs total going real slow on the back roads.

I wouldn't pull a 4'X8' utility trailer with a bumper hitch . To be safe get a class 5 Recever that is rated at 10.000 lbs & 1000 lbs toung weight . now does that tell you any thing . To pull a 7000 lb trailer 10% to 15% of weight will be on hitch at least 700 lbs to 1000 lbs . you will be maxing out your truck . It will pull but will be on the edge of seat all the way. And some where down the line the truck will let you know just how much you misstreted it . I have a K-2500 Silverado Crew Cab and I wouldn't Pull 9000 lbs with it I think to much of truck to treat it that way .

Please be safe and get a truck that can not only pull that weight but can stop it also.

I can not say for sure what the towing capacity for your 91 Chevy is, but I am quite sure that it is rated lower than what you are proposing to tow with it. Figure 7,000 for the tractor and 2,000 for the trailer (you need a trailer rated for 10,000 lbs)

There is no way that a bumper hitch will carry that trailer. If you attempt it, you at least need a receiver with a weight distributing hitch.

If you live in the salt belt, you need to be carefull with the bumper! I saw a trailer full of junk (scrap metal mostly) going backwards down a hill with the bumper attached to the tongue. I didn't see the truck, it was up the hill farther. I'm guessing that was a "bad day" for that guy!

get the reciever put on, for one thing it will let you also run a equalizer hitch set up and with that much weight its strongly recomended for a bumper pull trailer, second the heaviest factory bumper tow rating ive ever seen and that was on a 1 ton dually is 500 lbs tounge weight 5,000 trailer weight far short of your projected 7000, and 7 ooo is a lot of weight for any brand half ton pickup, be real carefull
