First off 26,000 lbs and 150 miles are CDL rules not DOT rules that apply to the truck. If you are over 26,000 lbs you would need a CDL; but you would be exempt from CDL rules within 150 miles of the farm when driving a truck over 26,000 lbs with a farm plate.

While farm tags allow several exemptions a DOT # is not one of them. So since you weigh over 10,000 lbs; you are a business transporting your product (cows) to market; and cross state lines you are considered a Private Carrier and you will need a DOT #.

While you most likely know I will throw a side note in here for others reading this post.
Since you are transporting live stock across state lines you will also need health papers on the cows.

They are DOT rules for a CDL. DOT (Department of Transportation) sets the rules for a CDL (commercial drivers license).

Yes DOT sets the rules for CDL's
But CDL rules are not the same as
DOT rules for the truck.
Dot rules for the truck start at 10,000 lbs
DOT rules for a CDL start at 26,001 lbs

I think you may have miss read what I wrote.
