Truck mechanic compliance

In the Early 90's when I was forced to get a CDL for my my job so I could be DOT compliant and get drug tested randomly.

Suddenly I become a truck driver with all the responsibilities over and above my full time job as a Truck mechanic.

My boss at the time looks at me funny when I say I need all the paper work that goes along with driving the truck. Insurance card, Employee identification proving I am able to drive a new unsold dealer tagged truck, Compliant CDL, log yadda yadda! The boss says you are a pain in my AZZ! Why don't you just drive the truck and quit complaining.

Talk about ignorance.....

I did successfully get my last Employer (Tractor Dealer) to see my point about compliance. But He is a stand up guy and wants to do what is right and safe. I did elect to not drive for him and he got two drivers and two newer trucks. I did deliver tractors occasionally.

Ultimately it is the Drivers responsability when he is in or loading that truck. Owners and Gypos
Shunning the drivers or mechanics compliance or folks just being ignorant about the situation is Crap.

I can be certain there is a bunch of mechanics driving around in trucks test driving them and are not in compliance. They really need to make sure they have the required paperwork etc when they are in a truck. This would apply to sales people as well who drive trucks. Big fines if you don't.
