Hi, thanks for the forum. A lot of people get mobile home axles and want to use them to build trailers. I've worked with Foreman axles and springs and found them to be compatible with Dexter axles. In most cases mobile home axles can be made standard by replacing the brakes with Dexter brakes, and the axle itself can be cut down to a non oversize load width by splicing a piece of three inch pipe over the section cut out. I have a source for the brake parts.

Be careful about using the mobile home axles. Some state's DOTs are looking at outlawing them on "home built" trailers. In fact, in FL now you can't get a tag/title for a home built trailer without showing where you purchased real axles. The thoughts of using water pipe to splice an axle back together scares the crap out of me too!! Don't want to get into a bunch of metalurgy here but that isn't safe! If you do it at least plug weld it and don't weld 360 degrees around the pipe. Sooner or later it will break at the weld.

This is the place that sells the parts Link I think they sell through trailer dealers. They have a catalog you can download. I got those round ones from them for my trailer, they are rated for 6,000 pounds.
