I just replaced the floor of my flatbed. Was wondering what the best treatment for the wood would be? Better to paint, treat with oil, etc.?

Black asphalt fence paint.. cures to an environmentally inert state.. great protection. My wood deck on my 2000 trailer lasted 3 ys, and had bad spots at 2ys... with 'water sealer' type treatment.. I replaced lumber in 03 and painted with black asphalt paint.. lumber is in 85% or better condition..

go to the big box lumber yard and buy linseed oil and bathe it good ,but you should have done this before installing floor to get bottom and sides good . wood will last forever if properly treated with this stuff .They had some 30-40 year old flat bed trailers with the factory floors still and this is what they treated the pine with .

I use Thompson's water seal on mine once a year, works great. I just replaced my floor last fall with treated lumber. The last floor had been untreated lumber, was on the trailer when i bought it new back in 1994. It was ready for replacement last fall but still it lasted a good while I would say.

I just use old motor oil, it works fine for me. I need to get rid of it anyway. I try to treat my trailer deck once a year, a hot sunny will help the oil soak in pretty good.
