sad story, but reinforces blocking tires on tow vehicles. Granddad came by today to pick up the deere 250a trackloader. ramps on the gooseneck are short, so he parked on the "down hill side of the driveway" to lessen the angle. As the dozer topped the ramps, it leveraged the rear tires of the dually off the ground and down the hill the whole rig sails- truck, trailer, dozer, and grand-dad bull riding for the whole 8 seconds. Jackknifes, pushes the nose of the truck into a tree and the nose of the trailer through the bed- then tears of the gooseneck. missed the house by about a foot...

Grand dad rode it out the whole way from the seat of the dozer- in a daze.

moral of the story- BLOCK THOSE TIRES

As others have said. Put jack stands or sume other support under the rear of the trailer to support the load.

It would also help to block the back of the trailer up so that it does not lift the truck off the ground. I do that no matter what I am loading. Just determine how low the trailer sits in the rear when loaded and block it a couple inches lower so you can get the block out when loaded.

I have went trailer surfing twice. After the first time, did indeed block under the rear of the trailer. The second time, blocks shifted, and trailer wanted to go sideways instead of straight back. Block behind the FRONT wheels of the truck also. DOUG

Trailer Surfing. A sport only enjoyed by the most demented looking for the Darwin awards. If you are going block the truck tires you are looking for one of those awards. Unless you drive stakes the blocks will push. As stated below to keep the weight on the truck tires the blocks or a jack must be placed under the rear of the tralier or be part of the ramps.

Anybody try something like this?

Link

I looked at it and it seemed to make a lot of sense on the surface.

Forget blocking the tires man.. block the rear of the trailer so it don't squatt in the first place. timber or jackstand.. whatever fits.

Hello. Just a yr ago, the neighbor run his Allis 5 cat up on his trailer, and left it idleing. As he walked to the back of the trailer, his weight offset the load. He slipped and fell by one of the ramps...and the cat ROLLED back and over him!!NO jacks or blocks on the back of the trailer. left the blade UP instead of down. The sad part was the wife and I drove by and was still under the dozer! But it was 8/900ft out in the field. He lived 2wks. We haul a lot of old tractors and we back on and most of the time we use our winch. Also have a Bulldog jack on BOTH sides of our trailer. Don't be in a hurry! Bobmn

Put a trailer jack, landing gear on the back of the trailer, too.
