Would like feedback on performance of gas 6.0 2500HD Chev. 2001 model with auto. trans.,has hauling package. The trans. is 3 speed. Truck will be used for hauling 8000 lb. tractor on gooseneck trailer. Some small hills involved, but nothing major. I have been reading post on this site and find out there is good info. Any comments appreciated.

Mine is also 2001, 6.0 2500 4x4. Figure on 13.5 MPG tops, empty. 7 to 9 MPG loaded. This is after I installed a Superchips tuner, was about 12 empty and 6 to 8 loaded before. Will handle your load no problem. DOUG

I"ve got a 2002 GMC 2500 HD with the 6.0, I pull a 20" gooseneck usually not loaded to the max. The truck feels like it would pull the world, if you could get traction. The only drawback is make sure and have plenty of gas avaliable

I have a buddy with a 2000 2500 6.0l 4x4 set up like that. He gets 13-15 mixed with some freeway and 9-10 towing a snow mobile trailer with 4 sleds.

Lots of power, no problems - thirsty at the pump is the only complaint.

That motor should go 250,000 pretty easy. Flush the trans every 30,000 and it should easily last that whole time too.

I agree that should have the 4L80E overdrive trans. I have a 2005 crew cab 2500HD with the 6.0 that I use to pull a gooseneck trailer. I just hauled a Massey Harris 30 and a Minne Mo ZA back from Columbia City Ind. to just north of Cloumbus,Ohio and ran 65 most of the way. You have to be a liitle heavy on the gas to get that much weight moving, but it cruised right along after it was underway. I only collect tractors and don't farm so I only tow once in a while so the 6.0 works out for me just fine. I think it should be fine for your application also.

You sure it has a 3 speed trans? The last 3 speed auto trans was the turbo 400 which was obsoleted about '91. Look again, I think you will find it has a 4L80E. That said, you should be ok for power. It's going to be mighty thirsty though.
