My 95 6.5 turbo diesel runs great 198,000 still gets 19 to 20 empty. Loaded milage varies considerable depending on the load and speed you try to push it. around 65 with a 5500lb camper i get around 15. with a camper van on a car trailer I got 9. Mine is a extended cab 4X4 2500

I'm running a '95 3500HD service truck loaded with tools and supplies, dont know the exact weight but it's got to be pushing 13k everywhere it goes.

Also I had to rebuild the engine when I bought the truck (bought it with engine bad) I built it back with a manual Injection pump just for reliability. The truck has a 5-speed trans. that is not O/D and I get 13 mpg, I know it's not great but a comprable gas engine option (454) would be around 8.

I figure running empty should be in the 17-19 range. The electronic pump they used definately was a piece but working properly it may contribute some to the MPG figure.

It really is not a bad engine, it's 180hp give it it's time to do it's job and it will move the load down the road.

Thanks for the quick report. reason i'm asking, is i have the chance to buy a nice looking 3500 with a dead 6.5. its rigged for trailer pulling, and i was curious how it would rate driving around empty, milage pulling trailer depends on so many differant things, with what you are telling me i can kinda guess.not too bad to fix; bad pump, turbo control probs. i also like that db2 mechanical pump, this truck is auto so will have to stay with db4 electronic, but with upgrades maybe it'll last. had thought about converting to gas 350, til i found engine is not a total, & has about 130,000 mi.fuel milage would really be rotton with gas.
