I have never owned a GN before, but now my JD 720D is nearly ready for the shows and a bumper hitch won't cut it. I also plan to haul 1200# round bales. I have a 2004 F250 gas, extended cab, 4x4, 8 foot box. I have found an H&H heavy duty 20+5 tandem duals with 2 10k axles and 3 flip up bobcat ramps. It is 2 years old and he wants $5900. I realize I could grossly overwork my truck with this trailer, but is it better to get a heavy trailer and load it lightly without any worries. Or should I get a new lighter trailer for about the same money. But then, if in 5 years I get a 1 ton dually diesel then I'm in the trailer market again. I don't want to break anything or have any accidents. Thanks for any advice.

You don't say which gas engine you have, but I assume it's a 5.4, not a great powerhouse for towing. I live in the mountains and you need all the power you can get, but another thing to consider when buying a trailer today is with a 20,000# GVW trailer that only leaves you with a 6,000# GVW tow vehicle before you get into all the CDL Crap.If it were me I'd go for a lighter trailer with 2 7000# axles and stay below 26,001. Just my two cents.

I don't know where you live, but in west central WI, you can get a brand new GN trailer 20'+5' beaver tail, flip over ramps, 20,000 GVW for around 6 grand. I would just spend a little extra money and get a brand new one that has the warranty and new tires, etc. Either that, or just look for a better deal on a used one. I think the price of $5900 is way too much for what you described. I guess it also depends what the trailer looks like, how many miles have been put on it, and how much tread is on the tires. Just my 2 cents.
