I've got a 97 F350 with a 7.3 Powerstroke, and I have a bad injector. Runs on the weak cylinder but is weak on a pull. No lights or warnings, I'm wondering how to find the bad injector without going to the dealer. Thanks for any help.

Ok i know nothing about a powerstroke ( got a cummins) but have always heard that to find the weak injector all you do is to loosen the line at the injector with the engine at idle, if no change its that injector. Could be way off base but...

We have found the bad injector does not oil like the other ones. Take off valve cover and start engine and observe. this may not always be true but has been on our 2 1995's

these methods work some, but i think you would be ahead to have scantool put on your p/s diesel--doesn't have to be dealer, but not all obd11 readers will work. you will have codes, light may or may not come on.you may have more than one-you may have other problems in system--

thats right, most won't, your engine is not required to link up to obd11.

Their are a couple of ways. Fire the truck up cold and feel the exhaust manifold to find the cold cylinder. Or check the under valve cover wiring harness. It's not uncommon to have a burnt pin that can cause the miss. Check out www.fordtrucks.com in the 95-97 forum for more info

What Joe/PA said. You may have to very your RPM to find it for sure. An inferred temp gun is handy way to check Exhaust temps.
