Check the RV websites, RV.net, escapees.com, etc. There"s always a number of discussions going on with regard to converting medium & heavy duty trucks to RV"s. I did an extensive search of the DOT rules on their website, and never did find a good definition of an RV. I did find, however, that the DOT"s own interpretation of the rules specifically exempts recreational vehicles as long as they"re not used in a commercial venture. A vehicle registered as a motorhome is obviously an RV, regardless of whether it"s pulling some sort of a trailer or not. There is a definition of what constitutes a motorhome, and each state has their own rules. You can also buy one already converted - they"re called toterhomes, and are commonly used by the horsey and racing sets. By the way, the federal DOT rules specifically exempt the occasional transport of personal property, with the exception of the requirement for a CDL. As long as what you"re towing with is registered as a motorhome, you also don"t need a CDL according to the DOT rules. Keith
