Simplicity transmission slipping!!!

We have an older Simplicity Broadmoor 6010 mower and like it. But it recently started slipping on hillsides. We replaced the drive belt and a local mower place told us that the rear end/transmission/etc would cost over $500 to fix. We are pretty handy, so if anyone can help us, point out where to get the parts, provide a used transmission, etc.... please let us know ASAP!

Hit it with a bigger hammer. Or try the lawn mower board.
