Anyone got any good suggestions for repairing the ears on the front Bolster on my Cub? Seems someone wasn't too careful on assembly and cracked one of the ears clean through. I also have a similar problem on the final housings with broken bosses that the draawbar threads to. Should these be welded solid , then drilled and tapped? Or should I weld around a copper rod or carbon to keep the hole from filling in? I have access to Mig and a Miller thunderbolt machine.

Hi Truck,
You can weld around a piece of carbon or graphite but you need to make sure the crack is gone or it will come back. You want machinability too in case you have to chase some of the threads. Pure nickel or silicon bronze electrodes would be best. A spray torch would work very well also. If the hole is apt to stretch from outside forces then a properly placed washer might be helpful if there is room to weld it in place and still have the proper clearance for your attachments. Steve
